What remains

Memory, trace, time, gesture, disappearance, language.

What remains once a gesture, a journey or a day is over? These works keep traces: colors drawn from spices, flowers and food; marks printed with stamps and inks; objects, garments and words that fade. Writing, textile, print and installation are different languages of the same research, one that favors simplicity, slowness and attention to the present moment.

Made with everyday materials, the work also explores an experimental, alternative response to our need to adapt to climate change. Through the installations, the viewer is invited to connect to a simpler life: to be present, to observe, to meditate.

Garments & Traces

Art installation · Arte Povera

Influenced by Arte Povera (Italian “poor art”), this series brings together humble materials (cotton, natural inks, tea bags), writing and used objects. The textiles speak of lightness, simplicity and the consumption of goods. The writing shows traces over time. The objects connect the work to the past and deepen the reflection on the present moment, memory and nostalgia.

The garments and costumes we wear reveal many facets of our personality: soft, joyful, poetic, light, rigid, serious. Part of the series is a critique of current textile production (the deconstruction of the self-image, disposable fashion). Another part follows the artist’s own transformation, through her apron.

Simplicity & Memories

This series is where Marina’s work with textile began, during an artistic residency in Berlin. The research consisted in dyeing scarves with natural pigments (spices, food, flowers): each stain keeps the trace of what made it.

Ailleurs loin d’ici

(elsewhere far away from here)

Made after trips to Africa, this series is an invitation to a poetic journey. After exploring natural hues, Marina turned to printmaking: stamps and inks leave marks that give shape to her emotions.

Family Roots

These textiles were made in Berlin and during an artistic residency in Italy. All are inspired by Marina’s past and family heritage: what is handed down, and what remains. The project continues below, in Famiglia.

FAMIGLIA

“Sono perché eravate” (ongoing) (I am because you were)

Marina began this project as a tribute to her Italian family. Through it, she hopes to evoke a universal story: the heritage of migrant families. Migration, exile, identity, language, transmission and the feeling of home pass from one generation to the next, through memories, spaces and community.

«Sono venuta in Italia per essere più in contatto con la cultura e la lingua italiana. Però qui ho trovato più di quello che speravo: ispirazione e creatività rinnovate; una parte di me che mi mancava, la gioia, la vita semplice; le trasmissioni, le eredità di cui non ero consapevole. Per questo vorrei trasferire tutto ciò in un’opera artistica.»

“I came to Italy to be more in touch with Italian culture and language. But here I found more than I hoped for: renewed inspiration and creativity; a part of me that I was missing, joy, simple life; transmissions and inheritances I was not aware of. That is why I would like to transfer all of this into a work of art.”

Toward our own time

(In progress)

Inspired by Berlin and the ruins of Rome, this installation looks at our present as future archaeologists might, extending Marina’s research on Latin American exiles in 1960s Europe: which traces will we leave behind?

An installation about the traces our present will leave behind.
